It is with great pride that I share the news that Madrid Fusion Manila was formally launched at Madrid Fusion Tuesday, February 3, at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos de Madrid, a huge convention center before the prestigious crowd comprised of the world’s best chefs and members of the culinary industry.
Filipino and Philippine-based chefs Claude Tayag, Myrna Segismundo, Margarita Fores, Bruce Rickets, Juan Carlos de Terry, and Jose “Chele” Gonzalez took centerstage as it was announced that Manila will host the first madrid Fusion in Asia this coming April.
Joining the Filipino chefs were two of Spain’s most celebrated chefs who will be coming to Manila for Madrid Fusion: Elena Arzak of Restaurant Arzak and Luis Andoni Aduriz of the restaurant Aduriz.
Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos Salinas spoke before the Madrid Fusion audience yesterday and thanked the Madrid Fusion organisers for choosing the Philippines, because of our common heritage, for being the venue for Madrid Fusion in Asia.
The night before, the Philippines hosted a cocktail at the Ramses restaurant where Madrid Fusion Manila was launched to the international press. Tourism Director Verna Buensuceso gave a video presentation on the beauty of the Philippines. Dennis Hipolito, a flairtender from Manila made cocktails out of Don Papa Rum and Manille Liqueur and Chefs Bruce Rickets, Juan Carlos de Terry and Jose Chele Gonzalez made hors d oeuvres.

Among those who partied with the guests were founder of modern Basque cuisine Jose Mari Arzak, World’s Best Female Chef Elena Arzak, 2013 World’s Best Restaurant’s Chef Joan Roca, and Andoni Aduriz of Mugaritz.

Arzak and Aduriz are among the ten world-renowned chefs coming to Manila this April.
